Picture
Melinda Cochrane is an awarded poet, fiction writer, podcaster, educator and mother. She received the Mary Belle Campbell Scholarship for poetry and teaching from the North Carolina Writers’ Network. Her first YA novel, Desperate Freedom, was nominated for best book of the year in 2013 by the Quebec Writers’ Federation. She has published several books and continues to believe that we all have a story to tell.

She was also a podcaster who interviewed many people around the world with Maya Angelou being one her most renowned guests. Melinda also completed the Les Brown power voice training program.

Melinda also ran a publishing service out of Montreal for aspiring writers, Melinda Cochrane Publications Inc. Her first company Melinda Cochrane International was founded in 2013, which published hundreds of writers from all over the world.

Melinda's new path is to teach others how to find writing as a path to heal and in this mission, she hopes to inspire others to find their passions- no matter what that passion maybe. She also hopes to empower women to believe in their own abilites and worth in order to build more positive lives for themselves.

Her work appears in online magazines and blogs such as Life as a Human (regular writer), Shannon Grissom’s American Lifestyle Magazine, and Gigaré Lifestyle Magazine. She was the 2012 winner of Malahat Review’s Twitter Monostich Contest and has been longlisted for the Fermoy International Poetry Contest in Ireland. She also has work online in Quills Canadian Poetry Magazine, Red Fez, and Poetry Zoo, as well as United, the online magazine put out by the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers.

She has read in Bournemouth (England), North Carolina, and Montreal’s ‘100 Thousand Poets for Change’, as well as a number of book launches and other events. In Montreal, she spoke at Dawson College’s Anti-Violence Conference in 2011 and at the Bronfman Jewish Education Centre in 2018. She also did a PED talk at McGill University where she spoke to young aspiring teachers.
